Dog Ear Publishing releases “America Not That Beautiful” by Jadwiga Radon

A diabetic shares tips and tricks for dealing with diabetes in this new self-help book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

Although freedom and resources enhance the U.S.’s image as a land of plenty, that reputation has a dark side: obesity. In her new book, an author and diabetic challenges Americans to change their lifestyle while they still can. As she points out, diabetics struggle with their condition, but hard work and dedication – including eating correctly and exercising – can help them beat the disease.

“America not that Beautiful” describes basic human behavior, noting that sometimes eating – a necessary fact of life – can become an addiction, especially the high-calorie types readily available in the United States at corner stores, gas stations and grocery stores. That addiction, when accompanied by a sedentary lifestyle and other risk factors, can lead to diabetes. Radon writes about her diagnosis with Type II diabetes and how she worked to fight the disease through modifying her diet and increasing her exercising. Her efforts paid off: Today she is 25 pounds lighter, her cholesterol is within normal limits and she is prediabetic rather than a diabetic.

Radon aims to provide inspiration and practical tips to fighting diabetes, sharing suggestions for daily activities and good habits, information on counting carbohydrates and tips for shopping for food. Diabetic-friendly recipes such as lima beans with sausage and deviled eggs made with avocado incorporate easy-to-find ingredients and good nutrition. The book closes with a chapter devoted to inspirational quotes from historic figures and some inspirational thoughts from the author.

Author Jadwiga Radon. who has diagnosed with diabetes in 2009, taught for 32 years before moving to the United States from Poland to be closer to her only child, a daughter. She is a retired teacher interested in psychology, history and politics. Radon, who moved to the United States in 2001 from Poland, enjoys the mountainous area of Idaho, where she lives. She is in her sixties and walks and hikes to stay healthy.
